Androgens are contraindicated in patients with carcinomas of the breast or with identified or suspected carcinomas of the prostate and in female who are or may become pregnant. When used to pregnant women, androgens incite virilization of the external genitalia of the girl fetus. This virilization contains clitoromegaly, abnormal vaginal expansion, as well as combination of genital folds to form a scrotal-like figure. The level of masculinization is associated to the volume of medicine given as well as the age of the baby and is most likely to arise in the female fetus when the medications are taken in the first trimester. If the female becomes pregnant while administrating androgens; she should be told of the possible risk to the fetus.
